The Long Distance Walkers Association (LDWA) ‘flagship’ event, held over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend in a different part of the country each year, is a hundred miles in 48 hours, with a limit of 500 participants. This year the route went from coast to coast (only sort of!); starting in North Cornwall and ending in South Devon across both counties and over both Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor – a true Cornwall and Devon Hundred.
This year Tom completed this amazing challenge:
“I completed 101 miles in 37 hours 28 min. My legs and feet are sore, and feeling tired, but otherwise not too bad. One thing that did surprise me was that I found the second half of the walk easier than the first. I think this was mainly due to knowing that I was capable of finishing.
The good weather and generally favourable conditions underfoot certainly helped, and the enthusiasm of the marshals and the fact that the event was so well organised made it a thoroughly enjoyable weekend.
South Wales next year…”
Saturday May 25th. Great result! Well done Ant & Norm
Having run the Sandstone Trail – 34 miles – two weeks ago with Pepper and seen her finish considerably fresher than me, we decided to try something longer – and so she and I set out on Friday morning to do the Cheshire Ring – its the canal loop on the Bridgewater from Lymm to Manchester, then out through Denton, Marple, Bollington, Macclesfield, Congleton and back through Sandbach, Middlewich, Northwich, Preston Brook, Warrington and home to Lymm, and is about 100 miles.
Pepper had a great time up to just short of 50 miles, when she definitely lost her mojo in Congleton – went from running ahead of me all the time to following mutely at my heels, looking sad. So I called out the run support vehicle who came to collect her. Never seen Pepper so glad to get into a car! I carried on and finished in about 23 hours – slower than last year (21:30) partly because of the stop to hand over Pepper. So – in the man vs dog stakes, we now know who can run further!

Saturday 11th – Sandstone Trail
Mixed weather for the 33 mile challenge. Congratulations to the Lymm Runners (and everyone else) who took part, whether they ran it or walked it – as distance go 33 miles is… well, 33 miles! Well done.
Sunday 12th May – Chester Half Marathon
Congratulations to the Lymm Runners taking part in the Chester Half today. Great results: pb for Ant (>1:22), Jenny (1:48) and first-timer John (1:54). Brill.
Parkruns happen all over the place but our nearest one currently is at Wythenshaw (though some Lymm Runners join the fun at Pennington Flash).
