Introduction
The club has a annual championship to foster (friendly) competition between members. All members are automatically part of the championship; you don’t need to register – you just need to enter the events!
The championship consists of a published list of races. These vary in distance and terrain and usually include parkrun, trail races, road races and, in the winter, cross-country.
The idea is to:
- Encourage members to try a range of events over differing distances and terrain.
- Focus on getting a good turnout of members at a select group of events.
- Support local events by having a many members taking part as possible.
- Provide a focus for competition for club members and hence improve member’s performance.
At the end of the season there will be awards for:
- The overall male winner
- The overall female winner
- The highest placed M40 runner
- The highest placed L40 runner
- The highest placed M45 runner
- The highest placed L45 runner
- The highest placed M50 runner
- The highest placed L50 runner
- The highest placed M55 runner
- The highest placed L55 runner
- The highest placed M60+ runner
- The highest placed L60 runner
- The highest placed L70+ runner
The age group you are in is the age you are on the 1st July.
The club championship helps explain why some races attract bus loads of Lymm Runners – and other running events don’t. If you are only planning on entering a few races a year, we urge you to choose championship events – and get yourself climbing the results league table.
Past championship winners can be found here.

Scoring
To win the championship you need a low score!
Here’s how it works:
- Points are allocated to every club member who takes part in a listed event.
If you are the first Male or Female club member placed, you get 1 point; if you’re second you get 2 points and so on. Remember, this is just about Lymm Runners taking part at that event; you might finish the race in last place but if you’re the only Lymm Runner there then you get 1st! - Members who do not take part get allocated a fixed number of points (and this will always be more points than any club runner who took part and finished).
Let’s take an example of 9 members taking part in a championship event:
| Pos | Name | Points |
| M 22 | Stuart | 1 |
| M 33 | Julian | 2 |
| M 57 | Tony | 3 |
| M 82 | Peter | 4 |
| F 89 | Mary | 1 |
| M 100 | Tim | 5 |
| F 180 | Jane | 2 |
| F 228 | Emma | 3 |
| F 233 | Kate | 4 |
In this example, all the other males in the club would get 5 + 15 points and the other females get 4 + 15 points.
For the Best of (e.g. Marathon), all the times achieved by runners during the period are combined together as if it was one race and the points are calculated as before.
The championship is decided by totaling up the lowest 6 scores for each runner, and the runner with the lowest score is the champion.
