Run Leader

Stars (Run Leaders are all stars)Run Leader:

Lymm Runners is blessed with a fantastic team of Run Leaders!
All have attended a recognised Run Leader’s course and are licenced to lead running sessions by UKA. Leaders turn out week-in and week-out as scheduled to ensure that running sessions take place as planned.

Training / Preparation

  • Read (and adhere to!) guidelines / best practice for Run Leaders
  • Attend 1-day LIRF (Leadership in Running Fitness) training course
  • Complete DBS check & obtain LIRF licence
  • Attend First Aid training course

Task:

  • Lead runs! (and/or power walking group)
  • Plan routes of about the right distance and turn up as scheduled.
  • Be responsible, adhere to good practice, carry mobile phone and first aid kit.
  • Volunteer to cover for leader absence – if/when you are available.
  • Report welfare concerns to Welfare Officers.
  • Support all runners in your group – especially if any runner feels at risk. Provide feedback on any issues arising with the Welfare Officers or Run Scheduler.
  • Attend Run Leader meetings and help develop good practice (Note: we aim for 4 Run Leaders meetings a year and we try to schedule these quarterly-ish)
  • Liaise with scheduler regarding own availability (to enable rota planning).

Pass on Your Passion batonTo celebrate the enthusiasm and commitment provided by some of our female run leaders we have a special award that is made each year (usually in December). It takes the form of the Pass on Your Passion baton. It’s a small recognition of the huge contribution our female run leaders and coaches make.

If you want to know more about Run Leading and how to get involved then read our getting started guide – Lymm Runners – New Run Leader Guide 2021 v2– We look forward to welcoming you to the team.
