Welcome to the 2017 Lymm Festival Trail Races!
The very best in community based, family-friendly sports days (or just good-to-be-outdoors days). And this year, ALL proceeds from the 5 & 10K race entries will be going to two charities: The Christie & Beating Bowel Cancer.
Whether you are an accomplished runner or a relative beginner; a supporter of a whizzy kid, or just looking for the heart of your community and the perfect picnic venue… This Lymm Trail Races on 9th July is the place to be.
The Lymm Festival Trail Races offer a kids fun run, a 5K and a 10K race, all based at the lovely site that is Lymm High School. A lap around the playing field for the fun run then extends into the woods of Helsdale and Spud Wood for the 5K and 10K races.
Organised by Lymm Runners, with refreshments available from the PTA, this is the perfect place to spend a summer’s morning. The races start and finish on the playing fields at Lymm High School, Oughtrington Lane, Lymm, WA13 0RB.
The race timings are as follows:
- 10.30am – Children’s Fun Run
- 11.00am – 5km Trail Race
- 12.00 noon – 10km Trail Race
The Children’s Fun Run takes place on Lymm High School playing fields and is a course of approximately 1 mile or 1.6km in pursuit of the Ginger Bread Man. As he was overtaken in last year’s run, the Ginger Bread Man has been training very hard for twelve months and believes that no one will overtake him this year. Let’s prove him wrong 🙂
Once again this year, we are encouraging entrants to dress up as their favourite woodland animal. A prize will be awarded for the best-dressed boy and girl!
All profits from the Fun Run go to the Woodland Trust, the wonderful charity that manages Spud Wood. Parents or carers are welcome to accompany/support their children during the Fun Run if needed, but please keep the family dog at home as dogs are not permitted on Lymm High School playing fields.
5 & 10K Course
The route for the 5km and 10km races starts on the running track on the playing fields at Lymm High School, goes around the playing fields, along a footpath through Helsdale Wood, around Spud Wood and then returns to the playing fields to finish. The 5km race is one lap of the above route and the 10km race is two laps of the same route.
You can view a map of the course below, although as in 2015, we might reverse the route to include an ascent of the infamous Hellsdale Hill, a feature that proved very popular with entrants that year.
This year, all profits from the 5k and 10k races will be shared equally between The Christie and Beating Bowel Cancer in memory of Lymm Runners member Sophie Womack who sadly passed away earlier this year, at the age of 33, after a brave battle with cancer.
The cost of entering the fun run and races is as follows:
- Children’s fun run: £3.00
- 5km: £6.00 for runners aged 12-15, £8.00 for runners aged 16+ (a £2 supplement is payable for runners who are not affiliated to UK Athletics)
- 10km: £10.00 for runners aged 16+ (a £2 supplement is payable for runners who are not affiliated to UK Athletics)
Race numbers are not posted out and you will need to collect yours from the registration desk on the day.
More information can be found on our FAQ page – including race rules.
Photos and video footage will be taken on the day for the sole purpose of providing you with a record of what promises to be a great day – and promoting the event on the Lymm Runners website.
The photos taken will be available via a link from this webpage to you for free download.
